The country of Finland is bordered by Sweden, Norway and Russia and so you can imagine that they know a thing or two about snow. Northern Finland is known to have snow flurries as early as September and the snow that falls, will remain until May. The air here is fresh, dry and cold and the snow is thick on the roofs of the residents.

Skiing is a way of life here and people also go ice fishing, dog sledding and many other outdoor activities, whether they are done for fun or for fitness. Families who will be visiting Finland will not want to miss a visit with Santa and this can be done by booking a holiday to Lapland. Each child will get their individual turn with the man in the red suit and be able to visit his cabin.

Once you have spent some time on the slopes skiing or snowboarding, you can then have fun by snowmobiling over the hills and right across the frozen lakes. If you want to travel in a more natural style, there are teams of huskies or even reindeer that will take you on a tour of the area. For those who are adventurous, they can spend a night in an igloo, a Lapp hut or a hotel made totally out of ice.

Jewel Cave stretches more than 152 miles – the second longest cave in the world – meaning it offers plenty of different ways to explore beneath the Black Hills of South Dakota. Park rangers will guide you the entire way, whether its the 20-minute Discovery Tour or the 80-minute moderately strenuous Scenic Tour.

With all this cave has to offer, if your mobility allows for it, head on down to the Scenic Tour. Be aware, though, that it involves 723 stair steps in about a half-mile loop. Also, be sure to wear a light jacket, as the temperature underground is a chilly 49 degrees Fahrenheit. Visitors are not allowed to touch the cave walls, but rangers let everyone get the impulse out of their system at the beginning of the tour with the sacrificial rock.

Underground in Jewel Cave, the Scenic Tour will take visitors past all sorts of awe-inspiring calcite crystals, that are formed by water drippings, and speleothems. Along with the ranger, electric lighting leads the way. Tourists can also take the Historic Lantern Tour, which is led by a ranger wearing a 1930s-style uniform. This tour includes visits to the Dungeon Room and the Heavenly Room, where a variety of cave formations are visible. Any fan of history – including kids age six and up – will love this strenuous hike. There’s yet another tour available to visitors.

The Wild Caving Tour isn’t for the faint of heart. It involves using rope assists and crawling through the cave, and all participants must wear caving clothes. Clearly, this tour is the most adventurous of them all! Once done hiking Jewel Cave, if your feet aren’t too sore, explore the 1,279 acre Ponderosa pine forest. Above ground even more guided walks, as well as demonstrations, are available from park rangers. Walking through these woods, visitors can see more than 390 documented plant species and a variety of birds and other animals, including red squirrels. Jewel Cave is open year-round, except for Winter holidays, but be sure to call ahead for tickets. Wait times can be long, especially during the summer months. There are fees for the underground tours, but walking the National Park trails are free. From Sarah at Qeedle

Christmas can be a horrible section of year weather-wise, ice, plus even snowfall and gale force winds can make staying in the British Isles seem very unattractive. It is because of this reason that quite many people decide to go on a winter sunshine break. There are an abundance of destinations to pick from, you need not roam that far to see the sun. Parts of the continent are much hotter than Britain during the UK winter.

Once you pick to go on a winter package trip you need to ensure that you are well packed. It could seem rather weird packing the sun block whilst it is so grey outside but this is indeed imperative. If you choose to fly somewhere that is very warm such as Negril, Jamaica then make sure that you choose a good sun-cream.

There could be lots of personal boosts to going away on a winter sun break. The main one is perhaps the mood elevation. Staying in the UK can be a bit miserable owing to the lack of light and freezing temperatures, the rush of exhilaration you can get in the knowledge that you have avoided all of this depressing weather and are chilling in the warmth is awesome. Another good point is the fact that the sun enables the body to create vitamin D, this is quite essential and tests have demonstrated that this will help elevate moods.

Flying away on a winter sunshine break need not cost the earth. There are many low cost sunshine deals online that will assist you to get away for a lot less than you may assume. Ensure that you look about, look on the web and consider a few different travel companies before you decide to book your bargain break. In addition ensure that you read peoples opinions on your chosen destination so that you know just what you are getting for your money.

We’re not the greatest fans of the countdown style “top holiday spots” kind of blog entries that you see on the internet, but we did decide to share the top spots that we feel were the ones where we spent the best holidays. Keep in mind that we decided to skip the more popular holiday destinations and go for those that had a “wow” factor, meaning that we weren’t expecting to be top class like they ended up being.

The beautiful island of Tenerife has two entries to this top: Playa de las Americas and Costa Adeje. Playa de las Americas is a very diverse holiday place, so it’s possible to spend cheap holidays in Playa de las Americas without having to look too hard. It’s an excellent resort, full of beautiful beaches and of beautiful people, both natives and fellow holiday goers.

Costa Adeje hotels are more on the expensive side and so the offer is more luxurious. These two resorts are very close to each other, and the chemistry between the two is excellent. As a whole, Tenerife is a beautiful island and a great place to spend your holidays, but these two places were the ones we liked the most in the island.

We also have to mention the Mediterranean island of Majorca. The largest island of the Balearic Islands seems to play second fiddle to its smaller neighbor Ibiza in terms of number of tourists. But while Ibiza focuses all of its energy on being the dance music and party capital of Europe, Majorca is a much better place for relaxed holidays, with friends or family. The island is absolutely stunning and with low cost airlines flying straight into its modern airport and with a wide range of hotels available, there’s no excuse not to visit the island at least once.

Further East on the Mediterranean is the island of Malta. We decided to include this island because of the ancient history and architecture aficionados out there. The island has been home to the Knights of Malta and they have left their mark in this beautiful island, with amazing palaces, castles and churches still keeping with their full glory.

Finally, we turn our attention to what is called the Pearl of the Atlantic, the island of Madeira. Looking at the island on the map it looks like it’s just a dot in the middle of nowhere, but it’s an incredibly rich and lush island. Try the local wine – a true delicacy!

With visiting the Everglades there comes a great amount of nature to take in. From back trails to canoe trails you can see it all and more. There are activities such as bird watching, out back hiking and pond trails that will keep your eyes entertained for a lifetime. There is no way for you to not have an adventurous time on your happy trails through the Everglades.

You can hike along the Long Pine Trail that will take you through a different assortment of pine forests and everglades. You will see breathtaking views of limestone pockets and solutions that Florida rests upon. This is an approximate 14 mile trek that will take you along a path around a pond that is inhabited by alligators and a nice picnic area to rest and have a break if you want too.

The Everglades also offers you a four hour canoe trail that takes around a nice and refreshing lake. This will be a nice leisurely ride to another pond that is up to you to follow into a pond that is infested with crocodiles. This is a cautionary trip of course. The safest way if you do choose to follow this pond is to stay at least 50 feet from the crocodiles. They will not bother you if you don’t bother them.

While in the Everglades you should visit the Pa-Ha-Okee Overlook that is a short boardwalk trail that will take you around 15 feet above the ground. This gives you a great overlook into the Everglades and all the beautiful natural wonders for you to experience. This gives you a true look at the outer Everglades and what is called the River of Grass.

If you attend yourself with a campground site and would like to find other trails to find and adventure on, each and every campsite usually supplies their different agendas and events you can participate in. They will even plan an evening get together for you and your whole family to enjoy and really learn about the Everglades and the nature of their beauty. Tim from http://www.allpro.com/
